Isha received India’s highest environmental award, the prestigious ‘Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar’

Isha Foundation received India’s highest environmental award, the prestigious Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar(IGPP) on World Environment Day 5th June 2010 in New Delhi from the former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam during the function organized by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India at VigyanBhavan, New Delhi in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by its Project GreenHands (PGH) for environmental conservation during 2008. The IGPP also included a cash prize of Rs. Five Lakhs and a silver lotus trophy.


A felicitation function was organized by India Water Foundation in the evening to honour Isha Foundation, whereby Hon’ble Parliamentary Affairs Minister and Minister of Water Resources, Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of New Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dikshit, CSR Head of Suzlon Foundation, Ms. Seemantinee Khotand, CEO of EADS India, Shri Yves Guillaume, shared dais with Sadhguru, Founder of Isha Foundation. The honourable guests mentioned how relevant Isha initiatives are in the current scenario. Smt. Sheila Dikshit in her address to the participants said “Government cannot do sometimes which can be done collectively by people. That’s what Isha is trying to do by bringing people together”. Honourable Chief Minister of Delhi handed over the award to the village volunteers who came from Tamil Nadu as a gesture of giving the award to the people.
