Isha Vidhya rural schools transforming the lives of over 10,000 children, 48% of them girls.

Besides academics, many students are achieving excellence in sports and extra-curricular activities and making a mark in these fields

Govt. School Support Program (GSSP)

  • 76 government schools in Tamil Nadu, benefited over 20,000 students and 450 teachers
  • 2770 government schools in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh, benefiting over 120,000 children and 6800 teachers
  • Over 60% of remedial students were mainstreamed within one year of intervention
  • Marked improvement in 10th standard pass rates
  • Distinct improvement in student and teacher English language skills
  • 95% of teachers shared that they were able to create a happier classroom as a result of Isha Vidhya’s training
GSSP AP

Based on the positive outcomes in Tamil Nadu, the Government School Support Program was extended initially to Kuppam Constituency in 2015-16 and subsequently to the entire Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh in 2017-18. Here, Isha Vidhya worked directly by training the government teachers and headmasters who then implemented the intervention programs with Isha Vidhya’s ongoing guidance. The program in Chittoor district covered:

  • 2,770 schools
  • 6,800 teachers
  • 120,000 students
GSSP TN

In 2012, Isha Vidhya began to carry out critical interventions in rural government schools in Tamil Nadu, including:

  • Magic English, an English language program
  • Remedial programs for students substantially behind their learning levels
  • Happy Classroom training for teachers
  • Extra-curricular enhancements through sports, yoga, environmental education, health awareness, career counseling and summer camps
  • Providing extra teachers for higher secondary schools and contingency staff for school cleanliness

In 2019-20, the Govt. School Support Program in Tamil Nadu covered:

  • 18 schools
  • 1,000 students
  • 40 teachers
Angan wadi

The Andhra Pradesh government piloted the restructuring of Anganwadis to improve their functioning, transitioning from just health and nutrition centers to also providing learning opportunities in Kindergarten, which was earlier absent. Isha Vidhya took up a pilot program to bring about significant changes in the learning outcomes for the Anganwadi children (ages 2.5 years to 5 years)
